MollyStuff Mission

MollyStuff Design's mission is to create affordable fine jewelry and fine art that can be appreciated for it's everyday simplicity and long-lasting beauty.

I think that I came to this mission statement from my love for things that last. When I decided that I wanted to make jewelry after five years of industrial design schooling and work (wow! what a big decision! when I tell people, they look at me like I've grown three heads... or lost a brain!), I knew I wanted to make things that would be valuable after the trends fade away. Sterling silver will always be valuable, and hopefully my designs will be just as valuable for that long. In designing, I try to keep up with some of the fun trends of the day but I also want to keep it simple. I hope that the jewelry designs will be worn every day, become a part of the wearer.

As I have changed in the past, I will change in the future and my mission may change. For now, this mission explains what I have been doing in the past year and what I want to continue doing.

Tie Chic

I've only made one piece for this collection so far because I've been busy doing custom orders! That is definitely a good thing!

This is a sterling silver "tie" that one can wear to dress up any outfit! This piece is not only chic in a geeky way, but also a good way to introduce "menswear" into any outfit.
The tie pendant will be available at MollyStuff in the near future.

Here's my jeweler's bench. It's new and spiffy! I broke it in a little bit today. ^_^


...and my photo studio! I know, I know, it's spectacular. I had to set this up so I can take decent pictures of my new creations during the winter! I can't count on sunshine in Columbus these days.
So that's my studio in a nutshell. It'll be a lot more cheerful once we paint the basement but it works for now!

Sn*w

It snowed today!


In between some custom pieces and other projects, I've been working on the Sn*w Collection. I better get these posted on Etsy! I just set up a "lightbox" in the basement so I can take pictures inside. It's not set up perfectly yet, and I need a tripod but at least I have some photos of my latest collection to share!

Snow Collection

I am going to have some fun with this collection! I've designed a few necklaces, each is a little different. One has a single flake, one pendant has 3 little charm flakes, and the third has the word "snow" written on it. Each flake in the collection will be different from the other flakes... and they'll have a hand-drawn/artistic quality to them.

It's Close

It's a close race between a Japanese-inspired collection and a snowflake collection (according to my little blog poll). Let your voice be heard! Speak out! Don't let the next collection be a disappointment to you, my people! Wait! Am I designing jewelry or running for office? I'm silly.

Initials Collection... Completed!

I decided over the summer that I wanted to make all of the letters in the alphabet for my Initials Collection. Even though some initials are unpopular, I want to have one of everything. I wouldn't want somebody who is looking for a pendant with a "Y" in it to be frustrated because she can't see what it would look like.

New Font: Century Gothic

This is slightly old news but in case you haven't noticed...

I have changed my logo and whatnot to a new font! I think it makes my shop/identity look a little less "girlygirlygirl". Not that there's anything wrong with being purely girly but I wanted to convey that my designs are modern/contemporary as well!

MollyStuff Collections

Inspired by Etsy Columbus Michelle's "Pimp Your Shop" seminar today, I reorganized my shop! I would like to narrow it down even more but for now I have 5 "collections". Sounds pretty serious, right? They're basically just themes I've found going on in my store. For now they all belong in one shop because... yeah... that's all I can handle! Ok... so this is my round-about way of getting email updates to people. First, readers will join my Google Group (the subscription box is to the right), then my blog will be sending my posts to this Google Group. The group will send emails to the members when/how they say they want to be contacted. Sounds cool to me... we'll see!

Sounds kind of complicated but this is just another way for me to stay in contact with people! ^_^

New Addition to MollyStuff

I'm a little nervous about adding something to my shop that isn't jewelry... but I figure this could be another way for people to buy my designs! For instance, if somebody really likes my dancer pendant but doesn't want jewelry, then they can buy a small (2.5 X 3.5") print of it instead! Here's my first ACEO (Art Cards Editions and Originals) for $5.00 (plus shipping).

The Brass Wire Brush

I bought 2 of you today from Lowe's. You may be a plumber's tool but you work pretty darn well on jewelry. Thanks for being cheap and making my sanded silver look shiny!

Etsy Columbus Wedding Challenge Entry

Here's the actual pendant that I'm entering into the Etsy Columbus Wedding Challenge! It's listed in MollyStuff, called Romance in Yellow.

Etsy Columbus Wedding Challenge

I've been working on a design for the Etsy Columbus Wedding Challenge. Here's a sketch of what I'm planning on making!
The pendant will be hand-cut out of sterling silver with a yellow crystal bead hanging from it. I'll probably make earrings that match it... oh and coordinating bridesmaid jewelry? Oh boy... the deadline is Sunday!

Pendant for Chain Project

This pendant started with a fashion drawing-inspired sketch.
Here's the silver version. (There's a tab above her head that will wrap around the chain to hold the pendant) This one is definitely a statement piece of jewelry! It measures 4" tall (including the silver disc that hangs from the bottom). This pendant is going to hang on the chain that I made in my class. I'll put up a picture when I have the pieces put together!!
